Abandoned Detroit Daycare to Be Revamped into Café and Food Hall in North Corktown
A long-abandoned building in Detroit’s North Corktown neighborhood is getting a fresh start as a café and food hall. The building, located at 3388 14th St., was once a five-and-dime store before becoming a daycare center. However, it had been sitting vacant for more than 15 years before local resident Will McDowell purchased it in 2023 for just $14,000.
McDowell’s vision for the space includes a café serving food, coffee, and cocktails, along with a food hall that could provide kitchen space for small local food businesses. The idea is to create a vibrant community hub that not only brings people together but also supports local entrepreneurs.
The transformation of this building is part of a broader revitalization effort in North Corktown, a neighborhood that has been undergoing significant changes in recent years. The project aims to breathe new life into the area by offering a welcoming space for residents and visitors alike.
